Common breakdown causes like an overheating engine, poorly shifting transmission, and even blown tires can be prevented if adequate maintenance is performed on a regular basis. At Impulse Repair, we offer great preventive maintenance services to the truck drivers of Hawaii. Call today to book an appointment.
Contact UsChanging your oil and fluid on a regular basis is one of the best ways to lengthen the lifespan of your heavy-duty components and prevent unexpected breakdowns.
Your diesel engine uses oil for lubrication purposes and coolant for heat dispersal purposes. Both need to be changed on a regular basis. Most manufacturers recommend that engine oil be changed once every 20 thousand miles, but that may change depending on what you use your truck for. As for engine coolant, it must be changed once every 30 to 60 thousand miles. Once again, this service interval will likely depend on what you use your truck for. The harder you work your engine, the shorter the service interval gets!
Your transmission and transfer case both have a set of gearing and, as such, both require lubrication. The fluid in your transmission and transfer case needs to be replaced once every 30 to 60 thousand miles. Over time this fluid will break down, and if it’s not changed, it may clog up your transmission cooler and prevent heat from being properly dispersed.
Your differentials share the same housing as your axles and, as such, have the same gear oil change interval. To make sure the fluid adequately lubricates your gearing, the fluid must be changed once every 30 to 60 thousand miles. One important thing to note is that if fluid leaks from your differential plate, your entire housing will be low on gear oil. The same goes for gear oil that’s leaking from your axle seals.
